    Abstract

Beginning with the rapid development of central urban areas and suburban cities in the early 20th century, the population living in metropolitan cities has now reached more than 50% of the entire world's population, and this has caused many urban problems such as lack of residential accommodation facilities and urban infrastructures, traffic congestion, and environmental pollution. Furthermore, as highly advanced communication technologies are additionally combined with intelligent information technologies at the start of the 21st century, a shift in the structure of industry has brought about changes that are ushering in the fourth Industrial Revolution. As a result of these recent trends, smart cities have emerged and core components of the smart city such as information and communication technology (ICT), Internet of Things (IoT), big data, cloud, and artificial intelligence (AI) have been used to solve emerging urban issues intelligently and efficiently. This study aims to construct foundational data for the development of guidelines in relation to the smart city based on the recognition and understanding that the smart city is an alternative urban platform capable of resolving modern urban issues.
